Chapter VIII
Mechanics and Inversion of Chords on the Keyboard
Voice leading, economy of motion and a map of inversions
12.1 Voice Leading and the Economy of Motion
In the practical study of the keyboard and the piano, one of the biggest mistakes beginners make is jumping from one chord to the next while keeping every note in root position.
12.2 Root Position, First Inversion and Second Inversion
Inversion occurs when we change the physical order of the notes that make up the chord, changing which note is placed as the lowest one (the bass).
